Epipremnum Aureum 'Neon Pothos'
Epipremnum aureum 'Neon Pothos' is a stunning, low-maintenance houseplant known for its vibrant lime-green foliage that adds a pop of color to any space. A cultivar of the popular Pothos, 'Neon Pothos' is easy to care for and highly adaptable, making it a great choice for both beginner and experienced plant owners.
🌱 Care Instructions:
-
Light: Neon Pothos thrives in bright, indirect light, but it can also tolerate low light conditions, though its vibrant color may fade in lower light. If the plant gets too much direct sunlight, it can scorch, so it's best to place it near a window with sheer curtains or in an area that receives indirect light.
-
Watering: Like most Pothos varieties, 'Neon Pothos' prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Water the plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Be sure the pot has good drainage to avoid root rot. In the winter, you may find the plant requires less water as it goes into a dormant state.
-
Humidity: 'Neon Pothos' is tolerant of normal humidity levels in your home. It doesn’t require high humidity, but it will thrive in more humid conditions. If you live in a particularly dry climate, occasional misting or placing a humidity tray near the plant may help keep it healthy.
-
Temperature: This Pothos variety does best in warm conditions, with ideal temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Avoid placing it in areas with sudden temperature drops or cold drafts, as it may cause stress or slow growth.
-
Soil: 'Neon Pothos' prefers a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mix formulated for houseplants or a general-purpose potting mix will work well. Good drainage is essential to prevent water from sitting at the bottom of the pot, leading to root rot.
-
Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your 'Neon Pothos' with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. In the fall and winter, reduce fertilizing to once every 6-8 weeks, or stop altogether, as the plant’s growth slows.
-
Growth: Neon Pothos is a vining plant that can grow quite quickly, reaching up to 10-12 feet in length if allowed to trail or climb. It’s perfect for a hanging basket or trained along a trellis. You can also prune it back to encourage bushier growth and maintain the desired size.
-
Repotting: Repot the plant every 1-2 years, or when the roots outgrow the pot. Choose a container that’s 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current pot. Make sure it has proper drainage to keep the roots healthy.
-
Propagation: Neon Pothos is extremely easy to propagate! Simply cut a healthy vine with at least one node and place it in water or directly into moist soil. It will quickly develop roots and can be potted up once the roots are a few inches long. Propagating in water also makes a beautiful display with the vines trailing in a glass container.
-
Pests/Diseases: 'Neon Pothos' is relatively pest-resistant but can occasionally attract mealybugs, aphids, or spider mites. Keep an eye on your plant, especially if it’s stressed or overwatered. If pests are present, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Additionally, avoid overwatering, which can lead to fungal diseases or root rot.
-
Toxicity: Neon Pothos is toxic to pets (especially cats and dogs) if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause discomfort, vomiting, and other symptoms if consumed. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
🌟 Fun Fact:
Neon Pothos is a type of Golden Pothos, but its bright neon yellow-green foliage makes it stand out from the standard golden variety. Its bold, glowing color is one of the reasons it’s so loved by plant enthusiasts!
