Epipremnum 'Baltic Blue' Pothos
The Epipremnum 'Baltic Blue' is a striking pothos variety known for its deep greenish-blue foliage and naturally fenestrated leaves as it matures. Unlike other pothos, its leaves develop slits sooner with proper care, giving it a unique tropical look. This fast-growing, low-maintenance plant is perfect for both beginners and seasoned collectors!
🌿 Care Instructions:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can adapt to low-light conditions. More light encourages faster fenestration. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.
-
Watering: Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly and ensure excess water drains out to prevent root rot.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix with peat, perlite, and orchid bark for optimal root health.
-
Temperature: Thrives in 65°F-85°F (18°C-29°C). Keep away from cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
-
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50% or more), but adapts to average household conditions. Increase humidity for larger, more fenestrated leaves.
-
Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer for optimal growth.
-
Growth & Size: A vigorous climber that thrives with a moss pole or trellis. Can trail beautifully from a hanging basket or be trained to grow vertically.
-
Pests/Diseases: Resistant to most pests but may occasionally attract spider mites, mealybugs, or thrips. Wipe leaves regularly and inspect for pests.
-
Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep out of reach of pets and children.
🌟 Fun Fact:
The 'Baltic Blue' is closely related to the popular Cebu Blue Pothos but features darker, more teal-toned leaves that develop fenestrations sooner, giving it a more mature look early on.
