Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Fukurokuryuzinboku 'Boobie Cactus' 🌵
The Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Fukurokuryuzinboku 'Boobie Cactus', often affectionately called the "Boobie Cactus," is a unique and playful succulent native to Mexico. Known for its distinctive, bulbous, and lumpy appearance at the top of its stems, this cactus gets its playful nickname from the rounded, "boob"-like shapes that form as it matures. Its unusual look and low-maintenance care make it a standout in any collection!
🌱 Care Instructions:
-
Light: The Boobie Cactus loves bright, direct sunlight. It thrives when placed in full sun and should be positioned in a sunny spot for several hours a day. If grown indoors, a south or west-facing window is ideal. In low light conditions, it may become leggy and not form its signature shape.
-
Watering: As with most cacti, the Boobie Cactus prefers dry conditions. Water it only when the soil is completely dry. In warmer months (spring and summer), you can water it more frequently, but be sure to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In the colder months (fall and winter), reduce watering significantly, as the cactus enters dormancy.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining cactus mix to avoid water retention around the roots. For better drainage, you can mix in some sand or perlite. This will help prevent root rot.
-
Temperature: This cactus does best in warm conditions. It thrives in temperatures between 70°F-90°F (21°C-32°C). It is not frost-tolerant, so it should be kept in a warm environment and protected from temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
-
Humidity: The Boobie Cactus does well in low humidity environments, making it perfect for dry indoor conditions or regions with minimal humidity.
-
Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the cactus with a diluted cactus fertilizer about once a month to support its growth. During the dormant winter period, it doesn't require fertilization.
-
Growth: The Boobie Cactus grows slowly and can reach a height of 3-4 feet (0.9-1.2 meters) over time. The most distinctive feature is its bulging, rounded top, which gives it the playful look that’s both quirky and charming.
🌟 Fun Fact:
The Boobie Cactus is also known by its scientific name, Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Fukurokuryuzinboku, but its nickname has gained popularity due to its unique, lumpy appearance. It’s a conversation starter and makes a fun and eye-catching addition to any plant collection.
