Hoya Crassipetiolata 🌿
The Hoya Crassipetiolata is a stunning and unique vining plant from the Hoya genus, known for its thick, succulent-like leaves and compact growth habit. With its dark green foliage and striking veining, this Hoya makes a fantastic addition to any plant lover's collection, particularly for those who appreciate plants with succulent characteristics. Over time, it may produce star-shaped flowers, adding another layer of beauty.
🌱 Care Instructions:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal for the Hoya Crassipetiolata. It will tolerate a little direct sunlight, but prolonged exposure can scorch the leaves. If grown indoors, place it near a south or east-facing window to ensure it receives enough light for healthy growth.
-
Watering: This Hoya is somewhat drought-tolerant, thanks to its thick, succulent-like leaves that store water. It’s best to let the soil dry out before watering. During the growing season (spring and summer), water moderately, but reduce watering in fall and winter when the plant is dormant. Always ensure the soil is well-draining to prevent waterlogged roots.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining mix, such as cactus or succulent soil, to encourage proper drainage. You can also add some perlite or sand to increase drainage, which is crucial to prevent root rot.
-
Temperature: The Hoya Crassipetiolata prefers warm temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). It does not tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C), so make sure to place it in a warmer spot.
-
Humidity: Like most Hoyas, the Hoya Crassipetiolata enjoys moderate to high humidity. It will thrive in typical household humidity levels, but it will benefit from higher humidity (above 50%), especially during the winter months when indoor air can become dry.
-
Fertilizing: During the growing season, feed your Hoya Crassipetiolata with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive growth but fewer flowers. During the dormant winter months, fertilizing is not necessary.
-
Growth: This Hoya is a slow-grower with thick, waxy leaves and small, pendant-like vines. Over time, it can become a dense, trailing plant, ideal for hanging baskets or placed on shelves where it can cascade down.
-
Flowers: The Hoya Crassipetiolata is capable of producing beautiful star-shaped flowers that are typically white with a pink center. These blooms are fragrant and will appear when the plant matures and gets the right care. They may take some time to appear, so patience is key.
🌟 Fun Fact:
The Hoya Crassipetiolata is part of the Hoya family, known for its waxy, often fragrant flowers. This particular variety is favored for its succulent appearance and is also nicknamed the "Waxy Plant" because of its thick, glossy leaves.

Unfortunately this didn’t ship well at all. Half of the leaves were damaged and partially wilted. I could literally see through 3 of them! So far after just 2 days, 10 leaves have fallen off and I’m not hopeful for several others. Also, I knew this was a 4 inch pot but the plant was still much smaller than I expected. It’s a bummer because this was my first purchase and I had heard good things which gave me confidence to buy from here. I’m giving two stars because the price was good and the shipping time wasn’t bad. I’m hopeful that I might be able to cut what’s left of the plant and propagate it, but I’m not sure that I would make another purchase here.
Plants arrived looking wonderful! So far they have done great and are a great addition to my collection. Thanks!
Happy with my purchase.
